About Dr. Upchurch

"Experience and Dedication"
These are just two words that would describe Dr. Upchurch completely. He not only has vast experience in his field he also started as a patient with severe problems of his own in 1978. He first injured his spine in a fall while climbing a rope in a gym at age 11. Because of that initial injury and numerous others suffered in football, basketball, auto accidents and from working at United Parcel Service his list of complaints grew to severe neck pain, numbness and weakness in both his arms and hands, burning pain in his legs, sinusitis, allergies, and digestive problems. Receiving no help from numerous medical doctors, dozens of prescriptions or physical therapy, he had no choice but to listen to a co-worker and finally visit a Chiropractor. He had heard a variety of opinions about Chiropractic, many being negative, while a pre-med student at Wayne State University. Having no other options he decided to start Chiropractic care and like most patients he finally found some relief after all his wasted time and suffering.

“I remember my initial relief was rather quick but my symptoms returned quickly if I didn’t follow my corrective schedule to stabilization. Once I did learn that valuable lesson and gave my body the correct care and healing time ALL my other symptoms including my allergies disappeared. That is when I finally realized the healing capacity of the body with Chiropractic care,” elaborates Dr. Upchurch. In fact he still continues to follow his own advice and receives his own regular spinal adjustments. “I have been able to keep my spine stable since I was 18 years old and my x-rays prove it,” says Dr. Upchurch. “I refuse to have my health suffer and slow me down from taking care of my patients or from experiencing the many treasures life has to offer,” says Dr. Upchurch.

Dr. Upchurch is a tireless worker being extremely dedicated to his profession and his patients. While a student at Life Chiropractic College he applied his hard work ethic and graduated 5th in a class of 180 students. Twenty years later he continues to show his dedication by regularly taking more hours of continual education each year than is required for licensure. “Learning about Chiropractic and how the body really works from an innate neurological basis continues to excite me. It becomes a passion to continue to learn about Chiropractic and how to help my patients. It is like reading an intriguing book and not being able to put it down,” says Dr. Upchurch.

Dr. Upchurch has taken his zest for hard work and love for Chiropractic and has served in many capacities within the Michigan Chiropractic Association. He has served as a Board Member, Executive Board Member, chaired many different committees and served as District President. He was the recipient of the MCA President’s Award in 1998 as well as many other Outstanding Service Awards as a member of the MCA.

Dr. Upchurch attended a recent Michigan Chiropractic Association convention. Here he is pictured with the current president of the Michigan Chiropractic Association, Dr. Sam Caruso, second from the left and the current president of the Michigan Chiropractic Society, Dr. Christopher Dean, third from the left. Dr. Upchurch was very much involved in the Michigan Chiropractic Association in the past and still attends meetings to lend a hand when necessary.

Dr. Upchurch has served as president of the Birmingham Toastmasters and is a Dale Carnegie graduate. He is available to speak to any local organization or support group.
